Beware
An older gentleman was on the operating table, awaiting surgery. His son, a renowned surgeon was to perform the surgery.
As he was about to get the anesthesia, he asked to speak to his son.
“Yes, Dad. What is it?”
“Don’t be nervous, son. Do your best. And beware that if it doesn’t go well and if something happens to me, then your mother is going to come and live with you and your wife.
Webster’s Dictionary defines the word beware as; be cautious and alert to dangers, be on guard, watch out.
Doesn’t this summarize where we are in our world right now? We are constantly on guard, looking, watching and being cautious. I have talked to several people, many who are 80+ years old that say they have never seen the things we are experiencing in their lifetime. That generation has seen our nation met with many trials and challenges. So, to hear them say they’ve never seen anything like the magnitude of the Coronavirus and national rioting got my attention.
I started thinking about a statement I have heard multiple times since the quarantine started. Numerous people have said, “It’s going to get bad because the devil knows his time is growing short and he’s working overtime. The same is true for us as believers in Christ. Our time is growing short. Are we working overtime in the lives of others?
I asked myself some questions. What am I doing to further the Kingdom of God? Am I looking for opportunities to share the gospel with the lost? Am I making a sincere effort to reach out and minister to the hurting people around me? Does my life reflect the love and compassion of Christ?
My prayer for myself and for each of you is that we would look within and do a heart check? May we as believers in Christ be found faithful in serving, loving and sharing the love of Christ.
This is a song we used to sing in church many years ago. It certainly rings true, now more than ever.
Everyday they pass me by I can see it in their eyes
Empty people filled with care
Headed who knows where
On they go through private pain
Living fear to fear
Laughter hides their silent cries
Only Jesus hears
People need the Lord, people need the Lord
At the end of broken dreams, He's the open door
People need the Lord, people need the Lord
When will we realize people need the Lord?
We are called to take His light
To a world where wrong seems right
What could be too great a cost
For sharing life with one who's lost?
Through His love our hearts can feel
All the grief they bear
They must hear the words of life
Only we can share
People need the Lord, people need the Lord
At the end of broken dreams, He's the open door
People need the Lord, people need the Lord
When will we realize people need the Lord?
Until next week……. Don’t forget to smile (and wash your hands)! Tammy
